Google’s new gadget the G1 cell phone

Google’s new design for the T-mobile phone, dubbed G1 is the first phone to use the Android operating system, developed in part by Google. The Android has become widely anticipated due to its versatility and diverse range of applications available for the phone.
The open sourcing of the Android system allows capable users to create limitless applications. As of now, these applications are free. For the future, they may come with an associated cost when Google software developers are able create an efficient payment system.
The 3.2″ touch screen combined with the essential slide-out QWERTY keyboard and trackball enables the best of both worlds. For users unwilling to navigate the touch screen while writing an email or surfing the internet, the keyboard is a viable alternative. The trackball has the capability to zoom and highlight links on the G1′s screen. The trackball can be difficult to navigate at first, but like many other gadgets – the more you use it, the quicker and more efficient you become on the G1 phone.
One of the many aspects of the phone that are alluring customers away from competition is the availability of numerous free applications. These applications range in function from language features, to a feature called Shazam which allows the user to identify music playing in the background of a store, or nightclub and download the song to the headset. This truly “smart-phone” has the capability to teach the user how to play guitar or learn the ingredients in a popular cocktail. How many other telephones allow the user to scan a barcode to compare prices on the internet and in the community to find the cheapest product at the closest location?
The design has been called chunky, clunky and even bulky – but the gadget comes with increased usage capabilities, which offset this aspect of the G1. If you are one of the users that can get over the appearance and allow the capabilities to shine through, you will be pleasantly surprised.
The battery should last throughout the day, even while using all applications without requiring a mid-day battery boost.
Integrated within the phone is a 3MP camera that has the capability to take still pictures, but like the I-phone is unable to capture video. Detailed camera settings allow the user to adjust the setting of the shutter while clicking pictures creating quicker or slower shutter speeds.
An internal compass built into the phone is able to identify the location and can be used in combination with Google maps. This feature is perfect for those that are direction-impaired. There have been mixed reviews on the capability of the satellites to find select locations.
One of the great things about the G1 is the versatility that comes with the handheld, each application can be catered towards the usage and data needs o f the user. You are able to customize the desktop, or the applications to create a phone that works for you.
Available today for purchase in the United Kingdom, it is available with plans as low as $80.00 per month which will include unlimited internet surfing in the data plan. Will the G1 Google replace the I-phone with its increased usability? Only time will tell.
