Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 5

The BeoSound 5 is the latest offering from Bang & Olufsen, the high-end audio giant. The BeoSound is a departure from traditional audio products the company has offered previously.

This digital music player artfully bridges the gap between style, function and high-quality sound. It pairs a lightweight, 10-inch LCD screen with a full 2.0 GHz processor, and it goes where you go, as a tabletop standalone, a wall mount unit, or attached to a portable stand.

Its sleek, brushed aluminum design and flat panel controls make a statement in any décor, with an interface that responds to touch. The BeoSound 5 has an intelligent algorithm that uses a 500GB hard drive (that’s around 125,000 tracks) to learn your music library and create playlists on the fly, allowing users to flip their fingers through cover art and track information with ease.

The player supports most major formats for digital music, with a bevy of audio and video inputs to satisfy the hungriest audiophile, including HDMI, S/PDIF, USB, MPEG, and lossless Windows Media Audio and Video files.

The international firm plans to debut the BeoSound5 in March 2009 at an initial price range under £4,000, currently around $5,180 US dollars. Its limited interface and compatibility issues will be worth monitoring in the coming months.
