Hotel de la Cite – French Fortress of Beauty

by marczeale

The charming and quaint citadel of Carcassonne in southern France is the setting for a luxurious inn set into the stone walls of a medieval wonderland that complements the natural landscape beautifully. The city’s fortress was frequently the site of ancient Roman religious crusades, and the historic site received recognition from UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997.

The hotel’s 40 rooms and 21 suites feature regal furnishings surrounded by sculpted gardens and rich architecture. Guests enjoy access to a private wine cellar for intimate dinners and tastings from among its 10,000 bottle collection. Horseback riding, golf, and swimming in the hotel’s heated pool, along with local tours and canal activities will keep you busy during your stay.

Among the region’s many places of interest, the Chateau Comtal, Canal du Midi, and the 14th Century Cathedral Saint-Michel are must-sees. Find them here.
