Asus Eee PC 1000HE – Big Mini Makes Good

Asus keeps pace with the competition by upgrading its latest addition to the Ee PC line. The release of the Asus Ee PC 1000HE is a more robust 10-inch notebook than its predecessor, but much of the “fresh meat” is internal.

For $399, you get a 1.66GHz Intel processor, a 160GB hard drive, and 1GB of standard DDR2 memory. The HE model weigh in at a feather-light 3.2 pounds.

None of these “mini” notebooks will have the full set of features that larger (and more expensive) notebooks do, but a recent review from Cnet noted several above-average stats. Asus brags about a maximum 9 hour battery life, but the techs found with “real” resources going on, the HE did last over 6 hours, still quite impressive.

Other areas of solid performance include the shortest time of four laptops for multimedia multitasking, and iTunes encoding, good enough to get a “thumbs-up” from the folks at Cnet reviews. For more information, check out John Chow’s review on the 1000HE here.
