Hublot – Geneva’s Newest Big Bang
by marczeale
Jean-Claude Biver has been a part of the watch industry for almost thirty-five years, gaining experience with prestigious brands like Audemars Piguet, Omega, and most recently Blancpain, with whom he was a managing partner until 2003. One year later, he took on the CEO position at Hublot, incorporating new design philosophies and generating considerable wealth for a brand that is fast approaching thirty years in business.
As the name continues to evolve, so its prosperity grows. The recent past has seen the attraction and endorsement of royal celebrities as well as select appearances in feature movies like Noel and Two For The Money. The company’s meteoric rise among competitors led founder Carlo Crocco to sell controlling interest in the firm to luxury conglomerate LVMH, joining the ranks of other prestigious companies including Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon, Dior, and TAG Heuer.
2009 is shaping up to be another banner year for the Swiss innovator, with the opening of two new boutiques in Taipei and Hong Kong, as well as the introduction of the latest model in its popular “Big Bang” series, the Big Bang Earl Gray. With its 41 mm steel case finished in a matte gray and a generous helping of diamonds along the bezel’s diameter, the latest member of their novelty collection is sure to make a splash with Hublot’s newest ritzy retailers in Japan.
