Hind House by John Pardey Architects

by marczeale

One man’s desire to live close to the river sparked the imagination of John Pardey, who created a unique space on the banks of River Loddon near Wargrave, west of London.  Modern homes can seem a little sterile at first glance, but the functionality of this domain suits the owner just fine. Separate zones for guest quarters, living space, and a place to rest your weary head after a long, hard day in the city. The house was completed just last December.

Built on stilts to allow the river to swell and fall with the seasons, the house’s ample glasswork allows clear views of the panoramic vistas available in this peaceful, natural setting. A set of metal stairs lead right down to the water, where a sun terrace and a long, narrow, observation dock presents perfect spots for quiet contemplation. The steel-frame foundation with aluminum frame windows provides ample protection from the elements. See more of the John Pardey’s work here.
