Maarten Baas’ Smokin Stylish Furniture

by Lotus

Maarten Baas was originally from Germany, and he began his studies at the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven. He also studied for several months at the Politecnico of Milan. He had already had two designs that were nominated for awards when he graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven which lead to his collaboration with students from the same academy. He currently lives and works in the Southern region of the Netherlands where he produces handmade furniture and is continually developing new design concepts and ideas.

One of his most famous design collections was the Smoke series which is being reproduced by Marcel Wander’s international design company. With the international exposure in big cities such as Milan, London, and Paris, the Smoke series is considered by museums, critics, and collectors. The design pieces have already been acquired by many famous designers such as Philippe Starck. Some of his designs were showcased in museums.

The Smoke designs are pieces of furniture that is literally burnt and preserved in epoxy coating. All of the Smoke products come from the Baas & den Herder studio in The Netherlands. With its black color and unique burnt forms, the furniture brings a sense seriousness into a living space. For more information about the Smoke series and other products by  Maarten Baas, please see here.
