Takeshi Miyakawa and his Expensive Designs

by Ascent

Takeshi Miyakawa is a Japanese designer that originates from the heart of Japan, Tokyo,, where he was born and raised in 1962. In 1985 he graduated from the Tokyo Science University with a degree in architecture and went onto work for the Tokyo Construction Corporation as a site supervisor, where he worked for 4 years until moving to New York City in 1989. The next year would be a turning point in his life when he found his love for furniture, working for Stephan Rohner Furniture in Brooklyn and then Rafael Vinoly Architect. 2001 was his big break though, when he founded Takeshi Miyakawa Design, which is steadily churning out the beautiful designs that you see here.

Takeshi’s site is minimalistic in nature, but easy on the eyes and full off information about him and his brand.

Light Up the Night with Modoluce

by Ascent

Modoluce is a fairly new design company that uses light to bring much more life to their products. With the environment in mind, all of their products that include lighting are low-energy consuming, so you won’t be putting a strain on the environment, or your electric bill by enjoying these products in your home. Some of their best pieces are their illuminated outdoor furniture products, which could easily turn a simple backyard cookout, into an elegant outdoor dinner party with not much work at all. These pieces really do wonders lighting up not only themselves, but the eyes of all who will see them.

The Modoluce site is very well designed, and written in four separate languages and features an intuitive and easy to use flash layout.

Compelling Innovations from Sand & Birch

by Ascent

Sand & Birch Design Studio was founded in 2003 when Andrea Fino and Samanta Snidaro got together to join their different cultural backgrounds for one unique project, which was to re-interpret the concept of furnishing and to bring other meanings, sense and other lives to objects. A great example of that is their Diamond Sofa, which turned a piece of furniture into a piece of jewelry without losing to original functions of it as a sofa. Their different experiences help them combine to create great collaborations, where Fino is a law student and Snidaro studied architecture in both Italy and Spain, they have varied ways of thinking that mesh very well together.

The Sand & Birch site is marvelous and has everything you could ever ask for from a designer’s website.
