The Rocking Chair that Energize a Lamp

The Murakami Chair by Rochus Jacob is the winner in designbooms’s Green Life completion. The rocking chair uses kinetic energy produced by the rocking movement to power an OLED lamp that is attached to it.

During the day, the Murakami chair stores energy in an on-board battery back. In the evening the stored energy may be used on the lamp.

The design aims to create opportunity to generate energy through activities that people naturally do enabling the user to experience production and consumption of electricity in a gentle and rewarding way.  Please see here for more information.
